LYIS leads you to the world!
ENGLISH EDITION:
SSS : We Benefit A Lot in Farm Cove Intermediate, New Zealand
An exciting presentation by the Study Tour comprised of students from our Secondary School Section (SSS) to New Zealand during the summer break was held on September 30th.
Shirley, also known as Xu Chunlian, the head of Pedagogical Department in SSS, together with her twenty students shared with 1100 secondary students and several hundred parents about their short but most unforgettable time in our partner school Farm Cove Intermediate and Pakuranga College, Auckland, New Zealand.
Shirley opened the presentation by outlining the objectives of the study tour namely familiarizing the students with New Zealand education, culture and society, upgrading their English proficiency level and cultivating their independence. To her great satisfaction they all have completed the mission with flying colors.
All members of the Tour spoke very highly of the hospitality and care kindly offered by students and teachers from Farm Cove Intermediate headed by Principal Linda Harvie, more importantly of how much they have benefitted from this unique, and impressive learning experience. They were very well looked after by Tamara, the Head of their ESOL Department, homestay coordinator and many other teachers and supporting administrators in the school. All of them couldn’t help articulating their gratitude to those who helped and supported them there.
During the report, students from the study tour collectively sang the national anthem of New Zealand and performed Haka, the traditional dance of Maori, which was extremely novel for all present. Then some students detailed their feelings and gains of the tour with the help of PPT with hundreds of beautiful pictures. “I’ve really learned tremendously in Farm Cove, a fantastic school. I really appreciate their woodwork class, the cooking class and the unique music class. ” Said Wang Yiran, a girl from Class 11, Junior 2.
Other students who missed the opportunity to join the tour to New Zealand also expressed their feelings after the report.
“Students in New Zealand are so lucky that they can even sit on the sofa or the carpet in class,” Luo Jiayu, a boy form from Class 8, Junior 1, said excitedly.
Yu Gaohua, a boy from Class 4, Junior 2 said,” Students there are not scared of making mistakes. They are active to share ideas and learn mostly on their own. In my opinion, China is never short of talents, the performance of Chinese students is excellent as well. Maybe what we lack is a good atmosphere of leaning and a better education system. ”
“I really admire their happy leaning. Here I must thank our Principle Mr. Jason Tsui for giving us a chance to know what is happy learning.” Said Liu Sudan, a girl from Class 8, Junior 1.
The study tour to New Zealand is just a start for LYIS, the dream factory where students are fostered with international mindedness as well as distinctive Chinese national identity. Just as the motto of LYIS goes, “LYIS leads you to the world!”
